#66 Works Emerging Producers/Creatives 2024

Eden Arts are offering the opportunity for a small cohort of emerging creatives to develop skills in the creative industry through experiencing project management, production and delivery of a varied selection of projects taking place with Eden Arts in 2024.

This opportunity will be open to individuals from school leavers to those changing careers, who are looking to progress their creative careers, specifically seeking experience in producing cultural events, festivals, exhibitions etc. The open call targets schools, colleges, universities and the wider community. Individuals can apply to the scheme and a shortlist will be invited to participate. Applicants from Cumberland will be given priority however this opportunity is open to individuals living in the North of England.

#66 Cohort Connectors Trip

In 2023 Eden Arts introduced the opportunity for those working in the creative industries, alongside those working within local authorities, to visit other towns and cities to see how culture is integrated into those places. Last year we visited Manchester, Liverpool and Blackburn.

In 2024 we will visit the Festival of Making in Blackburn on Saturday 6th July to experience a successful festival immersed in the local community and celebrated and supported by the council. We will meet with the festival organisers to hear about behind the scenes of the festival on a day-long trip allowing time for connecting with other emerging creatives and existing creative industry professionals including members of the Eden Arts team. The bus will collect from Carlisle and Penrith.

The Winter Droving

Experience the making of a town transformed. The annual town festival, The Winter Droving, takes place on Saturday 26th October 2024 on the day the clocks turn back. A magical celebration of rural like, food, fun, masquerade and fire.

You will assist in the behind-the-scenes production of the event working alongside the core Eden Arts team as well as a larger team of event staff and volunteers.

NCNC

Programmed as part of the Middlesbrough Art Week NCNC present their ‘film’ Legal Alien made in collaboration with the people of Middlesbrough in 2023. An immersive experience taking place on Sunday 29th September 2024 this event requires the Eden Arts team to install elements of the film throughout Middlesbrough in the days running up to the ‘screenings’ and during the event steward the various locations.

NCNC (Nuovo Cinema Neo Cinetico) creates genre-blending film, photography, and art in public spaces produced by an artists collective based in Barcelona.

You will take part in the installation of this event in Middlesbrough town centre seeing the process of installation through to the realisation of the event. You will assist in stewarding participants safely answering any questions surrounding the work.

For successful applicants, there will be further opportunities to learn from internationally recognised artists and producers.

The #66 Works initiative aims to provide a series of opportunities for Emerging Creatives in Cumbria and the #66 region. This might be a trip to an established festival or event, an opportunity to participate in one of Eden Arts events as a steward or producer, work experience at Eden Arts or another organisation that we collaborate with, or joining a mailing list of individuals open to creative chances.

Earlier in 2024 a cohort of students from Carlisle College participated in the take down and install at Rheged's art gallery in Penrith. As part of the #66 Emerging Curators programme 6 students experienced behind the scenes in a professional setting led by the gallery manager Claire.

The #66 WORKS initiative will continue to develop opportunities for creatives seeking experience in the industry. Our ambition is to release a series of opportunities, however if you are interested in visiting Eden Arts please get in touch.

    • Emerging Curators

Partnering with established institutions (galleries and museums) the Emerging Curators programme offers emerging creatives the opportunity to experience behind the scenes of professional exhibition curation and install.

    • Workforce Creation

A limited number of students, initially from the University of Cumbria's Institute of the Arts, will be offered a placement at Eden Arts to gain an insight into the governance of an Arts Council NPO with attendance at a board meeting, mirroring staff and joining networking visits.

    • Emerging Cumbrian Artist of the Year

Formerly the Young Cumbrian Artist of the Year this open exhibition offers the opportunity to both young and emerging artists in the region to enter and exhibit work in a professional gallery setting. We hope to launch this competition again in the future. Watch this space.
